I'll add my 2 cents. My neighbor used trichlor for 7 years with no problem. Then, last year, she just couldn't get rid of the green tint and the pool just didn't "feel right". I went over and tested their CYA for them, it was over 150. I have to admit, their pool guy was honest and said she needed to drain and refill.
I had been gently suggesting a SWG (since I have one and love it) and she decided to do it. Once again, I give credit to their pool guy as he echoed what I said, add the SWG, don't drain and refill (we have severe water restrictions in our neighborhood) and let's see if the CYA comes down over time.
Anyway, she is now much more educated and active in maintaining her pool, her CYA is slowly dropping due to splashout and rain refills and she is a really happy camper.
