Also, I read this in the "ABC's of Pool Chemistry": "To raise PH use soda ash."

I read somewhere that I could use sodium carbonate (Super Washing Soda) but now I can't find the reference.

Did I mis-remember that?

EDIT: Ah, I just read that Soda Ash == Sodium Carbonate == Washing Soda, so I guess that's a yes.

If I wanted to raise the CH in my spa to 100ppm - 150ppm to prevent foaming, this is the stuff to buy, yes?

Looks like I can use it as fertilizer, too.
That looks like the right stuff to me, though it is a lot more expensive then other sources. Up here deicer is common and quite cheap (10X).

Correct: soda ash=washing soda= sodium carbonate (not to be confused with sodium bicarbonate).
