I have read a thread that suggests that DE should be added not by Suggested weight (i have a Hayward 6020 requiring 7.5lbs) but by volume? I have been putting the DE in a bag and weighing it to ensure i Rear the correct amount, is this a bad idea? It seems crazy that a company like hayward would suggest 7.5lbs of DE is they actually meant 7 1/2 1lb coffee jars!

You measure your DE by weight. You can get a scoop that is designed to hold 1/2 pound to avoid a scale.

I would still weigh any scoop to find out what it holds. It is near impossible to get more than 0.9 pounds in my 1 pound scoop.
I also say by weight, as I have found the scoops vary considerably depending on how tight your pack the DE
