Need experts opinion on my readings

I have a slight algae bloom going on. My numbers are below.
Total chlorine 8.8
FC. 6.8
PH. 7.4
ALK. 90
CH 175
CYA 45

Have been advised to use some algaecide, is that the fix?

No algaecide is not the answer. This is the answer pool-school/shocking_your_pool.
This process has to be followed to the T.
Your done SLAMing when
1 water is crystal clear.
2 CC of 0.5 or less.
3 you pass the OCLT. pool-school/overnight_fc_test

Do you have one of our recommended test kits ? Make sure you do some reading in pool school so you have an understanding of water chemistry and so forth.

pwrstrk gave you good advice. Algaecides can be insurance to help keep algae from starting (although we generally don't recommend using it for regular pool maintenance on tfp), but once algae gets started then chlorine is much better at killing it.
