3-way valve orientation

Is it possible to change the orientation of the valve so that what would normally be the inlet valve can be shut off? To further clarify the question imagine the inlet is facing up at the 12 o'clock position with the other ports at 9 and 3 o'clock. Normally you can turn the handle to have all ports open or to close either the 9 o'clock or the 3 o'clock ports. I want to be able to close either the 12 o'clock or the 3 o'clock and have the 9 o'clock be the inlet.
Does this require removing the top and turning 90 degrees to move the stops around to where I want them?

Thanks!

Depends on the brand. Pentair you just pull the pins out. Jandy I think you need to cut off some stops. Generally they work better with the middle port being the common pipe.
