Texture for fiberglass steps ???

I have a fiberglass swim spa that is used ... but new to me. I will be filling it soon.
Question... I plan on using it for conditioning my agility dogs and will teach them how to get out by using the steps. Problem is the steps are glossy Gelcoat with no traction. Will the 3M self adhesive texture tape stay on under water? It is good and dry now so I can install it before I fill the spa. If it will handle being underwater, will it effect my chemical balance ?

Hopefully someone will have experienced using this stuff... or something else??

I think it worth a try. I know it holds up well in outdoor industrial settings. I've seen it a lot in high traffic areas where it gets oily/greasy as well. I would lightly sand and clean the area with alchohol before applying.
