Newbie - so forgive my ignorance - when buyng the home we had a pool inspeciton and the inspector indicated that it would be time to replaster the pool. It is a white bottom and while there is some staining it is not enough to concern me. Is replastering an aestetic issue or is there something more that failing to take action sooner rather than later would be even more costly? The pool is relatively smooth and no cracks or leaks are evident.

Also in regard to darker colors - do they help raise the temp faster in sunlight?

Thanks!

Hedgie, welcome to TFP!

If the plaster is delaminating or full of cracks then it might need to be replaced. However, since yours seems to only have staining issues then it is only a cosmetic thing. Search the forum for stains and you will find many threads on how to get rid of the stains.

Dark colored plaster will help to keep the water warmer.

Until you have large chucks falling off allowing water behind the plaster ... it is more aesthetic. Especially if you are not seeing any water loss.

Yes, darker colors will result in a warmer pool.
