DE, Diatoms, and Algae

This is probably well known by most of you but I found it funny (ironic?) when reading about algae that they said diatoms are a form of algae. So, a DE filter is made of similar stuff as what is is often used to filter. See, I told you only I would be amused :hammer:
 
Yeah, except the diatoms in the Diatomaceous Earth (DE) are fossilized remains so are not living. As you say, it's still interesting that the algae that died millions of years ago is used in some pools to clear their modern cousins.
