It depends on which filters that you are talking about. There are several styles of both sand and DE it depends on which filter and which valve.
They have about 12 different models of valves. Some are forward and some are reverse plumbed, some are 1½" and some are 2", some are top mount and some are side mount (though to be fair, top mount is sand filter only), some are preplumbed and some are not, etc..
