We had our pool installed last year. We've had grout issues since it was installed and are looking to have it re-done.
We have an expansion joint behind our grout stones filled with caulk (not sure what is underneath the caulk), coping stones with cracking and shrunken grout between each stone, and then grout beneath the coping stones where they butt up to the actual pool itself. The grout there is falling out in chunks.
We have several estimates, but none of the masons want to do the whole thing, they want to caulk over the grout in the underneath joint and they want us to drain our pool to do the work.
I have one bid that I feel better about. He has estimated the full job, which includes removal of all grout, regrouting between the stones, and using caulk in the underneath joint around the pool.
There is a strange thing in his bid though. He wants to do 9-11 expansion joints between the stones by caulking between those stones instead of grouting those. The rest would be grouted. Is this normal?
