Closing my new IG saltwater pool in VA Beach, VA

Our inground vinyl saltwater pool is finally done minus the pavers which should be completed within a month.
My question is do we have to winterize it?
The pool installer said that since there aren't any trees in our yard that there will be minimal debris and that it doesn't USUALLY get too cold here we don't need to & that it's easier to just keep it open.
We have had some mild winters & some cold ones.
Thoughts?
Thank you!

Thanks Dave!
I guess my main concern is freezing pipes if the pump is running. But from what I've gathered is that the pump will not be constantly running & has an auto feature for when the water gets below a certain temperature. I'm having him explain it to me one more time. I'm new to all of this so learning everything about the new pool is a lot of info to take in...
