Constantly have debris in pool

This is our third season with this pool and it has been a very frustrating one! I have a constant amount of fine debris in the bottom of the pool. When I try and vacuum it out I can just see it coming back in through the jets after just a swipe or two.
The last two seasons I would see the jets stop flowing with a change in pressure and I knew it was time to backwash. This year they just keep flowing and you see a dark muck flow out of them. There is no change in pressure.
Specs:
31,000 gallon
Hayward Sand filter
Multi position Valve-don't know which one though
Pump motor and impellor were replaced last year
Sand was replaced in 2010 just before we purchased the house

Do I need to dump in a lot of clarifier?
Do I need to change out the sand?
Is there something to look for in the multi valve?

What size are your pump and filter?

Pump is 2 hp

Pump motor and impellor were replaced last year

Did you change up in hp?

What is your pump model and what hp and sf is the motor?

Pump motor was a direct replacement 2 hp. Don't know model type of pump as there is no labeling. Motor and impellor were replaced early last season and continued to operate as before. Debris problem started in early June of this season after pool had been opened for a month.

Using clarifier or changing the sand will not help....don't waste your time and money.

You don't say what happens when you backwash and then rinse....tell us that.

Since stuff is bypassing the filter, I'd start by opening the multiport valve and inspecting the spider gasket.

Opened multivalve and found two legs of the spider gasket were completely shredded! Put in a new one and will see how things run from here. Hope that solves my problem!

A 24" filter is pretty small for a 2HP pump.
