Rock hard deposits inside of iron waterfall pump

If never heard of anything like this but it is REALLY hard stuff and all over the inside of the pump. It is also discharging a redness that looks like rust. It is not rust and I have acid washed, scraped and bashed most of it off and the paint surface comes out new underneath. Are these barnacles? Or maybe black algae that has run wild?

Well, I had fixed the first one and then you must have edited at the same time.
