Filter sand entering pool thru return

We are newbies.....pool was installed the other day, when we turned on the filter, there is sand entering the pool thru the return jet.

What could be wrong?

Any suggestions about what to check?

I think that I would not worry about it for a bit here. Some sand may have gotten dumped down the main pipe on accident. If it continues then you may have a cracked lateral which would need to be repaired. Did you install everything or a company? If a company it may not hurt to give a call and let them know that there is an issue right away so that they cannot say that you abused it somehow.

It was installed by a company, and they have been contacted.
