Trying to fabricate pvc pipe for caretaker assembly

I have a caretaker 99 pop-up system. The union between the dome and the filter, where the little filter is housed, has a crack in the upper coupling. The pvc pipe appears to be 2" but the 2 unions I have found at Lowes and HomeDepot are a bit too small for the threaded part. I could buy two of those unions and cut the PVC pipe and attach them at the ends, but was hoping to just create the missing pipe section and have it fit with the other parts.
Did caretaker come with a "funky" sized threaded union?
Do the one sold online/at pool stores fit?

Union threads are not standard. A Hayward nut half won't normally go on somebody else's threaded half, etc.

I found that site yesterday, luckily they are local and I can walk in with part and see if it fits. Good prices.
