Got it staked and ready to dig tomorrow. This will be a complete DIY. I do have a "pool guy" to bounce questions off of and help with the vermiculite. I own a plumbing company - so I have a little experience in construction. Should be fun. The family can't wait! It's an 18x36 with cozy cove. Poly walls with liner. I will update as we go.

What type of cost savings do you think you'll enjoy? I envy those of you with time and talents to do this sort of thing.

Rain today. [THUMBS DOWN SIGN] Going to hold off the dig until Monday.
As far as costs go:
10k in the kit
0 for excavation (friend digging)
$500 for misc plumbing (I'm a plumber)
$300 for electrical supplies(friend wiring)
$4k in concrete
$1k in pool krete
$1500 in fencing material (I'll install)
Goal is to stay under 20k
A friend had one built similar to mine and it was $40k

Good luck with your DIY. I just finished mine in early July. It really was quite simple, just a few things where I know could have been easier had I had experience before. I hired out the dig and vermiculite, did the rest myself. I had a friend help with electrical, he is an electrician and does pools all summer long.

Nice excavation work! If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy your kit from?

Polar pools. I shopped around for a month before deciding on them. They're offering a free safety cover with their kits right now. That sealed the deal for me. So far so good. Kit was shipped promptly and is just what they described. The polymer walls seem very stout. Hopefully it goes together as good as it looks.

Awesome. We took a gamble and ordered through Poolwarehouse.com It took about 8 days and I received a tracking number via Old Dominion Freight that I have a couple skids weighing 2100 lbs due to be delivered Wed. We'll see how everything turns out! We went with steel walls as poly wasn't available in the lagoon style we went with. Good luck! Hoping to get our walls set this weekend.

Day 2: Got the walls installed, just need leveled. Had electrical inspector stop by to bless our light bond. We will level the walls, steps, and cozy cove first thing tomorrow. Pouring the bond beam tomorrow @ 2. Hoping the rain stays away till pm. Thanks, I must say (knock on wood) it's going fairly smooth. It's me, my buddy who owns his own excavating company, and a guy who has installed many pools on and off for the last 10 years or so. He's really going to help with the dreaded pool krete.

Originally I was thinking of pouring a pad behind my barn for the pump/filter. (No heater just yet) Today it occured to me to put them inside the barn in the corner. Duh. I've got the room, and I know the equipment will stay "nicer" in out of the weather. If I decide to add a heater (heat pump) I'll set it on a plastic pad that the hvac guys use. For now we'll go with a solar cover.

Not much to report- got the walls plumbed and leveled on wednesday but the weather wouldn't let us pour the collar. Got it poured this morning. Slow down! Lol. Looking good! How many yards did it take for your collar? I'm getting ready to leave work and meet the truck driver to get our kit unloaded.

I ordered 7 yards. It figured 6.2 but you always round up. I had a lot to fill in under the steps and cozy cove too. Had to use my tractor to fill in the far end.

Unloading the semi is when you realize how much work there will be. I got lucky - the semi had a lift gate and the driver had a pallet jack. Mine was 3 oversized pallets @1500 lbs. Its nice having it down to just the equipment boxes left. Good luck.

Update:
Been busy with dirt work and backfill. I had to reroute a swale around the pool area. It looks great. I ran all plumbing and have it stubbed into my barn. We hope to scrape the slopes tomorrow to prepare for pool krete but the weather doesn't look promising. Called a local water hauler today. He charges $150 for 3800 gallons. Thought that sounded reasonable. Awesome progress! Is there a reason you went with flex instead of rigid? I'm now indecisive about which to use. I've had a local PB tell me to just buy a few rolls of flex while most on this forum say rigid is the only way to go.
