I need to lower my pH (it is reading at 7.8)

Is hydrochloric acid the same thing as muriatic acid?

Yes, they are the same.

Thank you! I went to Home Depot to buy muriatic acid and came home and noticed it said hydrochloric acid. Thought I goofed.

Note that there are two different strengths. 31.45 % is the full strength and usually the better deal.

When using the pool calculator, it's important to select the strength you are using.

I checked and have the 31.45% strength. I will double check before adding.

Somewhat related question.. Where in Home Depot do they keep the muriatic acid?

Muriatic acid is sold by most hardware stores and some paint stores. The big box hardware stores, like Home Depot and Lowes, almost always have it, but they seem to put it in different departments from store to store. Sometimes it is outside in the garden department, sometimes in pool supplies, and sometimes in the paint department.

I finally had to ask someone where it was. It was in Outside Garden and was as far away from everything as possible. It came in a cardboard box (2 per box).
