:(
My daughter wore me down I caved in thinking pool was easier than a used car Wrong!
I have a intex Ultra 52in x 18 ft 6981gal. Sand filter Krystal clear sf15110 1600 gph and a Krystal clear SWS cs8110 180 lbs pool salt 50lbs of #20 sand 2.5 lbs of nth salt pool care

TH - 0
FC-6
PH -7.2
TA-80
CYA- less than 50ppm
Salt 2810 ppm
Copper .1
Water is cloudy added 3 in 1 hth salt care 3 days a go and pressed boost on SWS controls ran filter 24 hrs still cloudy. Manual says cya 1% of salt = 1.7 lbs I read on other post cya should be 3% of Salt which would be 5.25 lbs my salt pool care 3 in 1 is 4 lbs says enough for 20,000 gals should I add the 1/3 bag I have left or what am I doing wrong? Is it safe to swim in? It's going to be 90 next few days I need help.

Thanks

Welcome to tfp, Reddykiowattt

I know it doesn't seem like it now, but basic pool chemistry (what is taught on here) is much easier than repairing a car.

What are you using for a test kit? If it is strips, then beware that the reading should not be trusted. See the pool school article on test kits: http://www.troublefreepool.com/pool-school/pool_test_kit_comparison

Since your water is cloudy, it is almost a sure sign you have algae and need to do the SLAM process. See: http://www.troublefreepool.com/pool-school/shocking_your_pool You should do this with the swg off and use bleach/liquid chlorine until you complete the process.

In order to do the SLAM process correctly you will need to know your cya level. Have you added stabilizer, trichlor puck or dichlor powder to your pool yet?

I am using test strips from hth and my cya is above 0 and low on 30-50 ppm scale. I have added 3 in one start upto stabilize pool and is suppose to clarify cloudy water it is 77% cyanuric acid and I have added about 3lbs and it says on bag 4lbs will do 20000 gal pool. I have not shocked or added anything else not knowing what works with salt water system

Do not trust the strip for cya, they are almost always wrong on that measurement. It look like the 3 in 1 is 75% cya (does that agree with the packaging?)...so 3 lbs should raise your pool 37 ppm cya. We recommend 70-80 ppm cya for swg pools. See:http://www.troublefreepool.com/pool-school/water_balance_saltwater_generator

From now on, I would use just straight 100% (or close to it) cya, also known as stabilizer/conditioner to get up to the recommend range. HOWEVER, since you water is cloudy, I would not add anymore and instead assume the 36 ppm for now and start the SLAM process (link above). Turn the swg off for this and use bleach/liquid chlorine until you are done with the process
