I have a 16'x42" summer escapes. I just set up a sand filter. The specs. said to run 4 hrs. a day. Can I swim in it with the filter running?

If all of your chemical levels are in the recommended range, especially pH and chlorine, yes, you can go swimming.
I don't know about the Summer Escapes, but Intex pumps have that warning.
Look in the pump manual and it should have a warning about it if it's not ok to swim while the pump is running.
There are a couple reasons they have that warning. One is that they don't have the electrical certification for it and the Second (and most important) is that the way the skimmers are designed, they don't provide any entrapment protection.
If you don't have a through the wall skimmer I would probably not run it while you're swimming in it.

We never had any problems with running ours while swimming. Which pump/filter did you get? Ours was the 1600.
