Waterway is kind of a "lesser" brand (IMHO ... I could be wrong ;) ) ... so they are likely a little cheaper. Although many members use them.

I would certainly suggest sticking with a 1HP 2-speed at the largest.

I like the idea of energy efficient but they are a bit expensive....(in the short term I suppose). And Hayward? Can get it delivered by Friday. Are there any other considerations I need to think of regarding the filter unit?

All 1HP pumps are not created equal ... different wet ends will cause different power requirements ... and often they post inaccurate data online.

But the 1/4 power draw on low vs high is normal. Low moves 1/2 the water. So even doubling the run time on low will give a 50% power use reduction.
