Crystal clear water - stubborn stain/algae

May 25, 2013

FC 1.5
PH 7.5
CYA 45
Hardness 160
Alk 90

The deep end of my pool has greenish/grayish stains or algae that cannot be brushed away. I tried an algacide and daily brushing but still nothing.

We've had over 17 inches of rain this spring/summer in the event that has anything to do with it.

Should I shock my pool again?

Thanks in advance.

You FC is clearly too low for your CYA: pool-school/chlorine_cya_chart_shock
What is your CC?
Is the water clear?
What are you using to supply your chlorine?

You may need to follow the SLAM Process due to the low FC.

You can ID the type of stain by seeing if a trichlor puck will lighten it (organic) or if some crushed up vitamin C will lighten it (metal).

Water is perfectly clear.

I use pucks in the skimmer basket and in-line chlorinator.

Pretty hard to do without the ability to test the CC or a FC > 5ppm.

What did you use to get the results that you posted? You may be able to get a ballpark chlorine level with distilled water dilution until the kit arrives.
