So my sand filter dial is leaking. looks like the previous owner had cracked the input port from the motor and applied some black joint compound all around it. its no longer doing the trick, so i am thinking i should just get a new valve kit. the original is a jacuzzi DVK-7 bolt-on. do i need to purchase that exact, or are there other vendors that have ones that fit the same? any other suggestions?

Unfortunately you have to buy the exact replacement. You can buy just the body if the threaded port is all that's wrong. It's about half the price of a new valve. Of course you'll have to disassemble and reassemble the valve yourself.
Dave, that's what I had figured. Thanks for the confirmation. Hopefully I can get that joint compound off to disconnect the pipes!
Praher makes a replacement valve for it, but you have to replumb because the ports aren't in the same locations. It's part number is TM-12-JL.
I was able to find a match online, even branded jacuzzi. It was even a better price than the replacement ones from other manufacturers.
