hot tub filter cleaning/replacement

For cleaning, it's like pools in that it's when needed. For most spas, you need to check the filter weekly if you use the spa regularly. That's mostly because the filters tend to be small. Just check weekly until you get an idea for how dirty they get and how quickly -- you might be able to only clean them once every 2 weeks or once a month if the spa isn't used much, maybe longer. As for replacing them, that too depends on usage and is mostly determined by visual inspection for tears or general wear. This quick cleaning is just a quick rinse. Every few months (or longer if the spa isn't used heavily) you can do a deeper cleaning of the filter soaking them overnight in TSP or detergent. Instructions are similar to pool filters as described in Cleaning a Cartridge Filter.
