How do I use pool pump to drain

I wanted to know this as well..so I connect my vacuum hose over the closest skimmer to the pump, close the second skimmer & let the water go to waste?

Also, if anyone can please tell me how much water I need to drain? I have a 40k pool with SWG. My CYA is 100, I'm aiming for CYA of 80.

It's a direct ratio. If it really is 100 ppm then you need to drain 20% of the water to get to 80 ppm. I'd go a little more than that just to be safe.

So about 8,000 gallons. Or if your average pool depth is about 5 feet, you'd need to drain about 1 foot.

How sure are you about the 100ppm CYA reading? How did you test it?

Realize that most good tests max out at 100ppm and you could be well above that.
