Michigan,
Hi, here are my first results of the new season
FC---2.5
CC--0.5
TC--3.0
TA--400
CYA-NIL
PH--7.8

What are the first steps to take to correct these results
btw the water looks good just now after taking out a lot
of Crud as the result of leakage from winter cover

Best Regards David

You want some CYA in the water. If you have an indoor pool then CYA around 20. Outdoors with a SWG then CYA between 60 and 80. Otherwise CYA between 30 and 50. It is probably best to add about 2/3rds of the amount you think you need at first. Give it a week to dissolve and then test again to see where you are.

Your TA is very high. You are going to need to bring that down. See the lowering TA sticky.

Because your TA is so high it is important to know your CH level.

You should bring your PH down to 7.6 or lower and keep it at 7.6 or lower until you get the TA level down.

The lower the pH, the better from the point of view of removing alkalinity. Ideally, you're going to want to keep it around 7.2 or so for a while with muriatic acid. This is still fine for swimming, but it will burn off TA. Keep checking it and as it moves up above that, drop it down. If you have fiberglass or gunnite, you can drop as low as 7.0 to burn off TA, but keep the vinyl pools at 7.2 or above.
