Sand and Cartridge filter

I have an odd question that I would welcome your thoughts on. I have for the last couple of years contemplated on adding a cartridge filter down stream of my sand filter. It should work. The sand will get 95% of the trash and the cartridge will catch 99% of what the sand misses. Assuming flow rate of the cartridge is sufficient for the the pump I see no problems in doing this. Its advantage over cartridge is that I could backwash instead of disassembling the cartridge and cleaning it. I am guessing that cleaning the cartridge at the end of the season would be sufficient due to the sand catching most of the debris pre-cartridge?
Anyone tried it? Any thoughts on it?

I've thought about it but it adds head to the system and I don't think the payback would ever work out. Have you tried adding a little DE to your sand filter?

I add ZEO Fiber D.E. substitute to my sand through the skimmer.

Mine is crystal clear as well. When you get in the bottom with scuba gear on and lay there and look up you can see that the sand filter is not truly getting everything.

Chances are that a cartridge isn't going to get it either. You may want to consider either a small micron cartridge filter ($$$$) or a DE filter.

Stop doing that (it is likely you are the only one that is seeing anything)

That is the best way in the world to clean the pool. You can find all kinds of stuff the robots miss. :-D

It will drive you crazy. I tried the slime bag here for extremely fine dust and it really has been impressive. They do work. I think the 1 micron claim is a stretch however.
