Our Hayward H300 heater did not power up when the breaker was turned on this year. After a quick look, the 3 amp fuse on the circuit board needed to be replaced. The unit power turned on, but the heater did not ignite. After a quick cleaning and checking all the connections, the unit lit and flames rolled out for a second. It was lit for about 20 seconds then shut off. Now it continues to show an IF code.

Check and see if something bulit a nest or something on top of the burners. You can use a flashlight and a mirror to look inside the unit. Also, if it lights and the flames roll around/out the front like that, then you might need to clean the heat exchanger of soot. It's a dirty process and a pain but with the correct skill level it can be done. Shut off gas, remove burner tray, remove top, take hose with nozzle on it and spray down the heat exchanger from the top. Then put the top on and spray up from the inside of the unit to get the bottom side of the heat exchanger. Then remove top and spray down from the top one more time. The soot is nasty and if you get it on your clothes it's hard to get out.
