Cloudy water

I have a SWG and have not had any problems with the water staying perfectly clear until recently. Now, it has been cloudy for 5 days. We have shocked the pool and done the overnight free chlorine test each morning and it has been fine. Here are the current numbers:

FC 8
PH 7.8
Salt 3000
CYA 55
TA 100

We need some help as to what to do next. We have already added more CYA to get those levels up. Any advise?

During your shock process were you maintaining a FC level of 17-22ppm? If not, you were not following the Shocking Your Pool PROCESS

Yes we shocked the pool to 20

Nothing in your test results is abnormal. It would normally not turn suddenly cloudy on it's own. Can you think of some change that occurred?

No I can't think of anything that might be different. It hasn't been extremely hot yet either and we have had rain but the we did testing each day and nothing seemed off after the rain. I vacuum at least once a day and sometimes twice. We have not changed the sand recently. Could that be the problem?

You should never need to change the sand.....that's a pool store myth.

A very inexpensive procedure you can try is to simply elevate your chlorine to twice it's maintenance level for a couple of days and run your pump 24/7. That might do it. It is fine to swim at those levels so you can use the pool normally.

We had been running it all week 24/7. We will increase the chlorine levels as well for a few days. Here are the latest numbers this morning.

Did it turn suddenly cloudy? I still won't have a definitive answer but I am curious.

Yes. The water looked crystal clear and then we noticed it started looking somewhat cloudy about 5 days ago and at that time we started shocking the pool.

What chlorine source did you use to raise the FC to shock value?

I have been using 6% bleach

The ph is on the higher end of the range. try adding acid and bring ph down to 7.2. don't add anything else for hours. then test parameters.

PH test is not valid at shock FC levels. Do not adjust pH while in the shock process.
