replace the bulb socket in a pool light

I took the pool light out of my pool and the socket where the halogen bulb plugs in was all rusted and corroded. This piece is a /16small (3/4inch by 5/16 inch / 1 and 1/16 inch) ceramic socket with two wires coming out of it that connect to the base of the niche and I was wondering if I replaced this socket and spliced the wires it would work? To replace the whole unit with the hose is $350...trying to fix it with a $10 socket I ordered online.

Anyone done this before?

Pool lights are designed to be replaced as a unit. While repairs like the ones you describe are possible in principal, they tend to be a violation of electrical code. The original manufacturer certifies the fixture to be pool safe as a unit. A repaired unit loses this certification.
