Greets everyone - I've been very busy on Google for the last few weeks brushing up on pool care and many many links keep coming back to here, so it only made sense to join up. 
About a month and a half ago me and a group of great friends begin the process of moving a 12 x 16 on ground (about 4 feet buried, 1 foot above) from our neighbors across the street to our backyard, including the decking. The neighbors had it installed for about 20 years but changes in their family, kids having moved out, and having a cottage now met that they no longer wanted the pool – they graciously offered to us for free (incuiding EVERYTHING) so long as we did the work to remove it.
Suffice to say it has been an interesting saga, with moments of "what have I got myself into" interspersed throughout the process – however with the help of many great friends and literally countless hours of work, the pool is in and running...and it came out great!
Basically it was an almost one-for-one exchange, everything that came out of their backyard went into our backyard, decking, everything except for the bottom material – we even successfully reused the liner which was thankfully only about two years old (and high-quality) so it tolerated the move well. I was extremely careful to re-create everything so far as the actual construction as close as possible to the previous construction, and it paid off – the liner went in without a single ripple, and everything is as perfect as I could possibly expect. Quite happy to say the least.
The best part is since I was able to get a lot of friends volunteer their time, and I'm pretty handy with construction equipment myself (I rented gear to do the excavation and soil removal myself), I'm only in for about $1500 for the project so far – pretty impressive for a walk-oit pool that size including a large deck around it - pumps, filters, everything all in.
I'm mobile right now so I can't include photos – but I'll be happy to post them for anybody who's interested. I photo documented a lot.
