The first phase of the contest is now over. New entries will no longer be accepted. In about a week we will post the finalists for a vote by all members to select a winner.

A big thanks to everyone who participated!

===========================

It is contest time again, and this is a big one!

We need a new name for the Shock Process, and we are asking you to help us come up with the perfect name. Send a private message to "contest" with your proposed name before June 26th. The top three entries will win prizes, and the winning entry will become the new name for The Shock Process at TFP!

We haven't had a contest in a while, so the prizes are HUGE.

Send your entries via private message (PM) to TFP user "contest", ie press the PM button at the bottom of this post. The deadline for entries is right before June 26th California time. Enter as often as you like but you can only enter three names per PM......30 entries means you have to send 10 PMs. You must be a member of the forum (supporter or not) to enter and to vote. Moderators, administrators, and prize sponsors are not eligible to win. Anyone detected creating extra accounts to "stuff" the ballot box will be disqualified, and banned from the forum.

In case the winning "name" has been entered more than once, it will go to the person who's PM is the first received. This has been discussed before, and many names have already been suggested......there were some pretty good ones but they do not count unless they are entered in this contest according to the rules. The person who first submits a name officially via PM to "contest" will be the owner of that entry......even if someone else posted it in public at some previous time. In other words, if you tossed a suggestion out before, you'd better send it in and enter it or someone else might win your prize.

If you are not completely familiar with the Shock Process we teach, read "The Shock Process" in Pool School for a refresher. Pick what you think would be a simple, descriptive, easy to remember name that we can call the shock process. It can be a clever acronym or it can have no relationship whatsoever as long as it is easy to remember and short enough that it can be repeated thousands and thousands of times on the forum. Here are couple of STUPID examples just to help you get the idea..... you can quickly see why we need your clever help :)

The PINC Process (put in 'nough chlorine)

BLAST your Pool - (your gonna' BLAST the algae away)

There is no requirement that it have the word "process" in there, but some of the judges think it might help.

Upon close of the contest, the moderators and administrator will confer and select the three top entries. Those three top entries will then be placed into a voting poll on the forum and every forum member can vote for whichever one he/she prefers. The final winner will be determined by this forum wide vote.

PoolSupplyWorld.com and TFTestKits.net support the principles of simplicity that we teach here and we are very appreciative of their support. Please thank them for providing these amazing prizes. :goodjob:

We expect fewer than 100 entries so your odds of winning are remarkably high. This isn't one of those contests like you might see on TV where millions enter.

It's time to get busy folks. This change is going to happen and you could be the one who gets your "name in lights", but only if you enter.

Wait ... what do you mean I am not eligible? :grrrr:

I am sorry to have to tender my resignation then ... since I am pretty sure one of my suggestions was in the top 3 before this got opened up to the public

In all seriousness ... great idea and great prizes :goodjob:

When do we get to start seeing all the great submissions? :-D

I do have a quick question on the rules......

Let's say that two user's come up with the same "name" for the process, yet two different words to describe them??

IE....
User one submits TFP for the entry.....and means Trouble Free Pool

User two submits TFP for the entry.....and means Terribly Farting Popsicle

Who wins?? The term "TFP" becomes the new term used....but the words to describe it is now up for contest??

Although that does bring up a good point if an acronym is selected for public vote ... I suppose the "definition" of the letters would also be supplied by us, the peanut gallery.

If we get two entries:

TFP - Trouble Free Pool
TFP - Terrific Fancy People

they will each be judged as a whole. That is, it doesn't matter that they have the same name/abbreviation, they will still be judged separately, and if appropriate voted on separately. The short description of the term will be used often enough, to explain what the acronym means, so it counts as part of the entry.
