Hi:
I was just thinking that with all the help shared here I feel pretty sure I will be firing my "pool guy" .
But the issue I'm not sure of is the close up detail of the underground lines.
what methods are used and do I need any special tools???
Thanks.

Are you just trying to be ahead of the game or are you south of the equator ;)

I think most people just use a shop vac to blow the lines out, add some anti-freeze, and put some plugs in ... but then, I have never done it.

I was just thinking of the only thing I haven't felt sure of and wanted to throw it out there and get some input before committing to firing the pool boy.
Actually, here on Long Island in New York, it's starting out to be a great time to have a pool. enjoy.

I just use a normal size shop vac. Just blow all the water out till it mist, then plug(I have never used antifreeze in my line).
There is a sticky about closing an inground pool on here. Follow it and you will be fine.
Good Luck
