Just found this site a few weeks ago (better late than never) and bought myself a K-2006 test kit. Some background info first. This is our second full summer in the house - moved in in July 2011. Pool was up and running and I barely maintained it. I have a tarp cover so when I had it opened last year, the water was nice and clear. Just added chlorine tabs and other chemicals every so often when the pool got gunky.

This past fall we got hit with Sandy and my cover fell in. I was able to get it out but never had it on properly again and it kept falling back in. When I had it opened this year, the water was green and the bottom covered in leaves. I finally vacuumed the leaves out and have the water clear.

Here are my test results from Jun 1:

FC 0.4 ppm
CC 1.2 ppm
pH < 7.0
TA 20 ppm
CH 100 ppm
CYA 37 ppm

My results from today (Jun 11):

FC 3.8 ppm
CC 0.4 ppm
pH 7.5
TA 140 ppm
CH 80 ppm

I'm planning on installing a SWG in about 2.5 weeks - what should I be focusing on with these results?

Things look pretty good.

Did you add a lot of baking soda to raise the TA that high? I would suggest working on Lower Total Alkalinity as that is going to make the pH rise faster ... realize that a SWG also makes the pH want to rise. Although this is not a requirement.

You will also want to raise the CYA up higher when you get the SWG running:

I added about 12 lbs of baking soda directly into the skimmer and tested approx an hour afterwards close to the return jets. I'll test again tomorrow to see if that was an accurate result.
