HI there,
I've seen quite a few mentioned to solid CYA; but where do you actually find it? and is it less costing than the powder CYA that walmart and other stores sell?
We got our pool looking great, want to stay on top of it!
Thanks

Solid is the powder/granular stuff, as opposed to liquid. The Walmart CYA is fine.
Thanks Richard, I figured it was; just was hoping to find a lower cost alternative.

Interesting, just reread this... so putting it in a sock rather than just distributing directly? Does that make it last a little longer?

The problem with granular CYA is that it is acidic and takes a LONG time to disolve (days). If you distribute it directly in the pool you are putting little acidic flakes directly on the pool finish which can damage/bleach it.

Putting it in a sock in front of the return keeps it off the pool surface and speeds up the dissolving. Giving the sock a squeeze once in a while helps speed things along as well.

Once it's all gone from the sock it may not fully register on a test for a week. But adjust chems as if it did. Liquid will usually show on a test right away.
