hole in my liner where there is no support behind it

Hi; I have a 30 year old inground with a 4 year old liner. This winter a branch punched a hole in it right at the wall and floor. I tried a patch but the liner doesn't stretch to the corner at the wall and floor so the water pressure just blew out the patch. I double patched it but made the patches a half inch and 1 inch larger. Will a larger patch work or am I screwed? Any suggestions will help.

I would make the patch 2 to 4" larger than the hole and then double patch it.
