What type of algae is this?

It's the kind of algae that needs to be killed with the shock process.

But seriously, it looks like mustard algae, and it's the same thing that was going on with my pool, which had been pool-stored for years before I bought the house last summer. In my case, my CYA was off the chart and required a full draining and a fresh start, and some POP (Pool Owner Patience).
 
Somewhere some time ago, I read there were about 7,000 species of algae! "thehowheels" has identified that kind in the pic perfectly....the kind that needs to be killed.

Chlorine (in adequate amounts) is very politically correct....it is non-discriminatory and kills them all. :lol:
