Automatic Pool Cover closes but won't open

Hi. I opened our pool cover with no problems a few days ago. Also closed it with no problems. I went to open it today and it opened about 2 feet then stopped. It closed from that position with no problems; however, now it won't open at all. The motor doesn't sound at all when the key is turned to open but the motor does sound when the key is turned to close.

Any ideas?

What brand? Possibly the controller, could have stripped the drive, could be a loose connection.

I think it's an "Automatic Pool Cover" pool cover. We have noticed over the past couple of years that we have to press the key in and turn it harder to activate the pool cover to open or close. Can the key switch "wear out"?

Yes the contacts inside the key switch can degrade with use.
