Will I have enough Regants?

I just bought the Taylor K 2006. I am getting everything ready to open my pool with the BBB method. I'm thinking that the little .75 oz bottles will not be enough to get me through the summer here in NY.

My pool now is cloudy but I think I may deal with a cya problem and have to drain some off.

My question is what regants do you think I should reorder just to be sure I have enough and how much.

Thanks

Welcome to TFP!

You'll probably use more of the R-0871 FAS-DPD Titrating Reagent than any other while the R-0870 DPD Powder would likely be second. This is because the chlorine test is done the most frequently and usually uses the most reagent at typical FC levels and a 10 ml sample size for 0.5 ppm FC per drop. Next might be the R-0004 pH Inidicator dye since that is also a frequently done test, though when the pH is more stable it may not be every day or two. You will also run out of the R-0013 CYA Reagent if you do more than 6 tests. This is why Dave created the TFTestkits TF-100 to have more of the most commonly used reagents in his kit that also uses Taylor chemicals (see this link for a chart comparing reagent sizes).

From last year, here are the top 10 reagents we sold as individual refills and not part of a kit.

The numbers are relative. If I sold 100 R-0013's, then I sold 91 R-0870's, etc. etc.

1. R-0013 - 8oz CYA reagent - 100

2. R-0870 - DPD powder 10g - 91

3. The complete Refill set - 72 (this has been a big hit!)

4. R-0871 2oz - FAS/DPD drops - 60

5. XL option (R-0870 and R-0871) - 46

6. R-0014 - .75oz for pH test - 42

7. R-0010 - Calcium Test - 34

8. R-0600 - OTO Chlorine test - 32

9. R-0003 - Used in CC's test - 27

10. R-0009 - Drops for TA test - 22

Everything else sorta' blends together almost about even.

It would be nice if we could offer 16 oz of CYA reagent but it physically will not fit in the kit...we've looked at it many different ways.

The R-0870 and R-0871 could fit if we doubled them but, as many of you know, they are the two priciest items in the kit and we would have to change the kit price upwards.....I really am opposed to doing that.....just my nature.

Still, it would be nice if you offered it anyway. I source it elsewhere and just refill the smaller bottles. I do the same with the 2oz. R-0014 pH reagent. Those are the intelligent refill sizes for my usage patterns. I buy from you otherwise.

Wow. That tells the story right there. Thanks my order will come later on in the summer.

Once I use up 2/3 I guess I will know.

This is a big help. Now I wish I would have bought the T 100.

I too bought the 16 oz CYA reagent and refill the bottles. Dave, if you sold it I definitely would have bought it from you. I also bought 1/4 pound of the R-0870, which might be a little excessive. Hey, what can I say? I like to get the most bang for my buck.
