Question about Aquamatic Cover

Hi guys I am a new pool owner and I have an aquamatic cover. Do I need to leave a cover pump on it whenever it is closed or only when I am away? It has the rain removal zipper system, but I am unclear as the Aquamatic website doesn't say much about this. Thoughts?
 
I have one too. I only put the pump out when it's going to rain. We don't get much rain in SoCal though, so it mostly sits in the box. How do you like the cover? My pool is always clean and I only run the pump 1.5 hours per day. Barely uses any Chlorine either.
