multi valve settings

Hello
I have had a pool now for approximately 18 months and I was wondering if when you have the multi valve set to filter is it ok to have the ballast tank valve open and the pool return valve closed. Thus using it as overflow but using the sand filter.

We need to know more about how it's plumbed in order to answer your question. Can you post some pics or a drawing of the plumbing?
Also what type pool is it and what equipment do you have?

Sorry for the delay in getting back PC and internet problems.

No pics or diag bit of a divvy when trying to attach.

But my pool is ig overflow and tiled, the water pump has three valves to the inlet one from the drain one from the ballast with a one way valve and one from the hose attachment. This is then attached to a multi valve and to the filter. Their is a wast pipe from the multi valve and a valved connection with a one way flow valve to the jets.

I hope this info is ok and you can help me.

My biggest concern would be if the open valve on the ballast tank would allow the pump to suck in air. If that's not a concern, it should be fine.
