Is algaecide necessary?

I opened my pool sunday and water looked pretty good. On the initial test my results were FC=0, CC=0, CYA=40, and PH=7.4. i added bleach to get to shock level and have had it there 2 days. Pool looks great and i plan on performing the overnight chlorine loss test tonight. Do i need to add algaecide?

Also, my cya is almost exactly the same as last year. Is this normal since i haven't had to replace much water?

The CYA test is +/- 15, so, yeah, it can happen.

We don't normally recommend an algaecide, but when we do, we recommend Polyquat 60. Most folks that use an algaecide add it at closing. But, as Bama pointed out, maintaining a properly chlorinated pool, you should not need an algacide.
