Cya for the desert

CYA is not really a heat issue, rather it is a sunlight issue. The more sun your pool gets, the more valuable CYA is, up to a point. As it happens, the locations you mentioned are known both for their heat and their sunlight.
 
If you are running a SWCG, with which we recommend a CYA of 60 to 80, the higher end of that range is better. Regular pools where a CYA of 30 to 50 is called for, we suggest typically running closer to 45 or 50 in very sunny climates in the desert SW.
