Foam problem

Vital statistics: FC 4.7, CC ?, pH 7.3, CH ? CYA >10

When opening the pool in late spring (middle of May) I shock the pool and then add some algicide. There is usually a fair amount of green algae. This year a day or so after I added the algicide I had foam covering almost the complete pool. The stuff is on top of the water so the filter cannot take it out. I am at a complete loss as to how get rid of the stuff. Can anyone help?

Most likely it was the algaecide. The skimmer should be picking it up, and the chlorine will eventually get rid of it.

Yes, a lot of algaecides will leave a scummy-looking foam on the surface.

Have you studied Pool School at all? I especially recommend pool-school/defeating_algae
