So, I've decided that it's time to take the backwash line of my sand filter underground. Right now it empties about 12" above the ground and is right beside the pump. I'm wondering if that contributed to the motor failure we just had... Anyway, my question is once I put it the line underground, do I put anything on the end of it to prevent lizards, snakes, etc. from getting inside?
Should I put anything on the end of the backwash line?

I live in the country and mine tees into a 4" pipe that is open on the end. No issues with critters getting in the pipe.
That is pretty much what I was thinking, there really is nowhere for them to go and they certainly won't be there for long after you turn on the backwash.
So you guys don't think they would be able to crawl up the pipe and into the filter and mess something up? I'm not too worried about them being in the pipe itself, my concern it about them somehow getting into the filter...
