Hey everyone
I've been battling my green pool since Monday and things are looking good
Can I put my solar blanket on the pool while I'm shocking and would that help slow down the loss of FC
Or would I wreck my solar blanket
Also do I need to keep the FC at shock level until the water is clear
My Cover Your Acid level is between 20-30 according to the pool calculator
My test kit should be here this afternoon and I'll be able to get some testing done and post numbers
Thanks for the help
I'm very happy i found this web site

I wouldn't put the cover on it while shocking. It's not going to help and you may damage your cover.
Yes, you need to keep it at shock level until the water is clear.
Post a set of results when the kit arrives. :)

Ok here are my first test result ever
I know I did some wrong and I'll retest them tomorrow
FC=24
CC=0
TC=24
TA= 1st test=600, 2nd test =40
I didn't a ph test because of high FC levels
CYA= 70 didn't see the part in pool school to have a bright light so could be lower
I had estimated about about 30 using the Pool Calculator
I added 3 pounds of stabilizer it was 100% CYA
CH=? At first the solution was a slight pink and then at about 10 drops(not really sure) it turned clear
Then added up to 100 drops and it stayed clear never turned blue
So I had fun I learned something and before I redo the test tomorrow I'll reread pool school

I didn't see the note on my card to said in presence of high chlorine it may be blue and shift to yellow which it did
Does that mean the second test I did is correct
I didn't do a ph test because of high FC levels
CYA= 70 didn't see the part in pool school to have a bright light or my back to the sun so could be lower

Your TA is low. I suggest you confirm your TA test and if indeed 20, add enough baking soda to raise it to about 50.

If I understand correctly the PH test is not accurate at high levels of FC
Is the TA test accurate?
If it is then if it ever stops raining today I'll check it
If it is indeed low should I wait till I'm done shocking or should I bring it up some
Thanks

Yes, you are correct. The pH test will be skewed by the high FC during the shock process, so ignore it.

The TA test may change from green> pink or blue> yellow, but it's accurate. You are looking for a color change. I suggest you go ahead and correct the TA to 50ish now.

Hello Everybody
I tested my CYA today and got a result of 60-70
I did the test about 5 times and they were all about the same
According to the pool calculator 3 pounds of stabilizer should of only raised it to 30 or so
Could the addition of 10 bags of salt affect my reading
I was going to wait on the salt but I didn't know the builder was out there this morning adding it into the pool
Thanks
PS Pool is starting to look really good

At 8:20 pm
FC=24
CC=0
Tc=24
I'm going to see if it drops in the morning
I know it's too soon as the pool isn't crystal clear yet but close I can see the safety ledge in the deep section
I just want to see if it drops and I'll continue till the pool is crystal clear

It was only filled with tap water back in December
and I didn't know that I should add stuff to it
When my pool turned green on April 29th
I started looking for answer online and ended up here
The best place I could of found
Today my pool installer confirmed what I did and said I done did ok
Plus he convinced my wife that I had a good handle on it
All thanks to you guys and Gals here
So Here's a big Thank You to all :cheers:
