need help with connecting pump to electric supply

I am installing a new intelliflo pump - I have three wires, one red, one black, one green. I know the green is the ground. The wiring instructions state the L1 connection on the motor is a hot lead and L2 connection is a hot lead, but doesn't specify which color is connected to L1 or L2. It seems like I read somewhere it doesn't matter, but not 100% and don't want to short out a new motor. Does anyone know? Thanks

Hi Crystal,

Both your red and black should be line voltage of 120v. It does not matter which one goes to each line voltage in on the motor.
You can always double check with a voltmeter.

Also you should have an exterior bonding wire.
