How to plug old suction on Intex.

I'm going to hard plum my Intex 16"x 48" Ultra frame pool this weekend and I will not be using my old suction port.
I will be installing a new wall skimmer. Does anyone know how to plug the old suction hole. Any suggestions will be

Couldn't you just put a cap on whatever used to come through the suction hole? Or plumb it also the the pump with a 3-way valve and use it for a suction cleaner?

I am not familiar with the setup, so maybe my thoughts make no sense
