Pool Chemistry Set up

Hello All,
This season I will be setting up a new 16ft AGP. I have read the suggested reading and understand what has been communicated. One question I have not seen answered in regard to pool chemistry is; do you need to shock a pool when a SWG is being used?

 Welcome to TFP!!!

Many members here NEVER have to "shock" the pool ... if you maintain the correct FC level for you CYA level, then there is just no need. That is not to say that you should not be pro-active. If you have a big party planned, using bleach to bump up the FC by a few ppm before and after the party can help avoid the FC from dropping too low.

You only need to go through the shock process if algae appears, or possibly if the water becomes cloudy, or you have CC > 0.5ppm. Running the OCLT can verify if something is in the water that would require the shock process.
