I am ready to open my in ground pool. It has been uncovered all winter with the pump running when weather was freezing. I kept all leaves out. cl 3.0,ph 7.6,alkalinity 70,cya 40. My question,is it better to vacumn dirt to waste or can I use a stocking in the skimmer to catch it. I know if I vacumn to waste it will probably throw all of my chemical reading out of line because of having to add water as the level will drop as I empty it. I really do appreciate any help. How much dirt? For everyday amounts of dirt regular vacuuming, i.e. in filter mode, works great. For large piles of dirt vacuuming to waste is often better.
If you are just opening, go ahead and vacuum to waste. You can top off again and then balance your water.
