Can oxidation of metals in the water create CC?

Hi Everyone,

My water is a bit green and I'm trying to figure out if it's algae or metals. My first assumption was algae, so I have been superchlorinating for a few days. I still have some trace levels of CC, and I am wondering if chlorine oxidizing metals (iron) in the water would create CC or if CC is only produced when organic compounds react with the chlorine.

Metals won't create CC. Only chlorine combined with ammonia or organics shows up as CC and there are some oxidizers such as MPS that can falsely show up as CC in such tests.

MPS is potassium monopersulfate, and non-chlorine oxidizer, sometimes sold as "shock".
